Anyway, I think you get my point now. So onto my question. So, it was raining here today in LA! Actually, more like a torrential down pour! I had to go up to my house I have listed for sale (we're actually in escrow now, amen to that!) because we had a few more inspections to do (the geological survey and the appraiser had to come up). I had nothing to do and while I was looking out at the rain, I started singing in my head a little song that I learned as a kid and used to sing: " It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring...he went to bed without his head and forget to wake up in the morning". I started to think about the song...was I getting these lyrics wrong as well? I mean, it certainly wouldn't be a first! How does and old man go to bed without his head? Of course he's not going to wake up in the morning if he goes to bed without his head! Duh! This makes no sense! But I don't know what else it could be! Does anyone know if I am, in fact, singing this correctly? Who wrote this stupid song anyway?! Probably the same guy who wrote the lullaby about a cradle in a tree top and the tree branch breaking and the cradle falling! OMG! Seriously?! What the hell is that all about?!

Song Lyric Question...
So I'm pretty well known for getting song lyrics wrong...A LOT! For example, I thought it was: "Janet...Jackson is the last name" up until a few years ago when one my best friends corrected me (after laughing) and told me it's "Janet...Ms. Jackson if you're nasty". I don't know how I didn't get that! Another song I didn't know the correct lyrics to is "It's Raining Men". My Dad used to own a waterproofing company and one time I heard this song on the radio. I'm thinking I was about 16 or 17, because I was driving when I heard it. I thought "OH MY GOSH! What a great song for Dad's business". When I got home I told my Mom "I just heard the BEST song for Dad's business! It goes 'it's raining BAD! Hallelujah! It's raining BAD'"! My Mom laughed and told me the correct lyrics. But you know, if you listen to that song, sometimes it sounds like they're sayind "hard"...not "men", right?! I get a lot of things mixed up actually! Believe it or not, up until I was a senior in High School, I thought that when reading a recipe that "tsp" was actually pronounced "tisp"...and "tbsp" was "tibsip". I never put the whole "tsp" and "tablespoon" thing together! I don't know why...it just didn't click in my brain like that! Unfortunately, I found out that I was mis-pronouncing these words the first day of Foods class (in Home Ec) when I volunteered, like a dumb ass, to read our first recipe to the class! The teacher looked at me like I was a "special" needs student! Me, special? Of course! But not that kind of special!
Anyway, I think you get my point now. So onto my question. So, it was raining here today in LA! Actually, more like a torrential down pour! So I think it's "it's raining...it's pouring...the old man is snoring...he BUMPED his head and didn't wake up 'til the morning..."
ReplyDeleteFunny, I'm learning I sing the wrong words to a lot of songs too!
ReplyDeleteIn this case, I sing: "Its raining, its pouring, the old man in snoring. He went to bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning".
Certainly a silly song!
I had to make a correction to this post! I originally wrote that I thought it was "it's raining HARD" but that's not the case actually...I thought it was "it's raining BAD"! I just heard the song today on The Ellen Show and I realized I had it wrong. So, correction is made ;-)
